Glossary

Alliance 

The ever-growing group of supporters who pledge their commitment to the Fairclouds cause by becoming Cloudstewards, and by donating creative new drawings.

Community 

A commons consisting of the Communities of Salinas Grandes and Laguna de Guayatayoc (legally represented by Fundación Ambiente y Recursos Naturales FARN), Studio Tomás Saraceno, Aerocene Foundation, RadicalxChange and Serpentine Arts Technologies.

Steward 

The person or group currently holding the rights and responsibilities associated with a Cloudsteward Licence.

Cloudkeeper Licence

The legal arrangements that describe the relationship between the Cloudsteward as a steward and the Community, defining the stewards’ rights and commitments to Fairclouds as a collective artwork.

Cloud

A virtual representation of a cloud in the sky above the Salinas Grandes salt flats. Each unique cloud is associated with a unique Cloudsteward Licence. Each cloud is also associated with at least one drawing. Some clouds will associate with more than one drawing, meaning that your Cloudsteward Licence will give you access to multiple drawings.

Drawing

A digital representation of a ‘cloud drawing’. Cloudstewards will receive a package with their purchase that includes the digital drawing(s) and a vector file(s) of the drawing(s).

Stewardship Cycle

A period of one year with cycles synced. (For future cycles, the Community may decide that shorter or longer cycles would be beneficial, i.e., the “one-year” interval is not locked for all time.)   

Public Sale

A period of sale when the Cloudsteward Licences are available. 

Public Value 

The value of the Cloudsteward licences. This is manually adjusted by the Community before each public sale. This can be a universal increase or it can vary per cloud.

Cloud Density

A new licence’s public value increases in relation to its density, a variable figure calculated relative to the number of drawings and the number of stewards a cloud is associated with.

Renewal Price 

A set percentage of the public value. This is what the existing Cloudstewards pay to renew their licence.

Cloudsteward Credits

Cloudsteward Credits that stewards receive when they transfer their Cloudsteward Licence. This has no real-world monetary value. Any transfer or exchange outside of Fairclouds itself is prohibited.
